Tabaksteeg: The bridge with one end.

Just a short post for now, because the author is out chasing new Citrastructuræ.
I found this one while hunting for bus stops.

In the first image, the Citramobile, parked on a bridge. It’s not impeding traffic flow, because there is none. In fact, the end of the bridge is impeding traffic flow on the Citramobile, as can be seen in the second and third images. Even if I would remove the fence and force my way trough, then I still couldn’t pass, as my car doesn’t like to plunge half a metre down.

These pictures, taken standing on the bike path, show the bridge in it’s “full glory”, and it’s neighbour: a temporary dam to divert traffic away from the bridge. The road the bridge would connect to is now the bike path, at least up to the barrier where the bike path becomes the bike path again.

Looking the other way, I saw that there used to be a road to the right. The beginning is still there, but unlike the bridge, which at least leads you over water into nothing, this road leads you into the water! Looking on Google Street View, you can still see the former road. At the time, the bridge was unconnected on both ends, so a lot of progress has been made.

Maps:

Visit date / datum bezoek: March 20, 2014 / 20 maart, 2014
Status at last visit / status bij laatste bezoek:

  • Former temporary road and dam, road junction still visible / Voormalige tijdelijke weg en dam, wegenkruising nog zichtbaar.
  • Bridge, connected on only one end / Brug, aan slechts één zijde verbonden
  • Temporary dam and road / Tijdelijke dam en weg.

Future status / Toekomstige status: Unclear. The bridge will probably be put into use, and at that time, the dam a little bit south of it will be removed. But when this is going to happen is uncertain. / Onduidelijk.
